USWE Shred 16L VOID Limited Edition – Review

Using a larger backpack can be a good choice if you need to carry more gear and supplies, especially on long rides or multi-day trips. A larger backpack provides more space to store items like water, food, clothing, and protective gear. Unfortunately, when the pack gets larger the ride becomes more bouncy, but not with USWE Shred 16L

When mountain biking, using an unstable backpack can be dangerous and cause accidents. Unstable backpacks can move, bounce around, and throw you off balance, making you more likely to lose control on the trail. Additionally, an unstable backpack can shift the weight of your gear and supplies, making the ride even more unpredictable.

That’s why it’s important to choose a backpack that is designed to provide a stable and bounce-free ride. USWE backpacks are specifically designed to distribute weight evenly across the body and provide a comfortable fit, meaning you can focus on your ride without worrying about an unstable backpack.

The overall looks and profile are very appealing and although a fairly large pack, you can tighten the straps to reduce overall bulk when not at max volume. The VOID collab with its camo design looks the biz and gives this already impressive pack an edge over other packs in the market.

One of the standout features of the SHRED 16 is its modular front strap system, which allows you to conveniently attach additional pockets or accessories. This means you can easily carry your phone, gel packs, energy bars, or any other quick-access items without any hassle.

Furthermore, this backpack comes equipped with a helmet carry system, making it effortless to transport your helmet when not in use. Additionally, the SHRED 16 features armour-carry attachment points, providing a secure solution to store your protective gear.

To protect your belongings during unpredictable weather conditions, the SHRED 16 includes a rain cover, ensuring that your gear remains dry and secure. Moreover, it offers a zippered top panel pocket with a soft inner fabric specifically designed to store your goggles safely.

The SHRED 16 can accommodate a hydration bladder of up to 3L/100oz. The drink tube can be conveniently secured on the shoulder straps, ensuring easy access to your hydration source while on the trail. Please note that the hydration bladder is not included in the backpack.

On The Trails

We’re a fan of the USWE products and have been using them for years. Check out our reviews of the USWE Zulo 2, USWE Outlander 3, USWE Airborne 15, USWE Pace 12.

They provide excellent stability, storage and organisational solutions and don’t move around at high speeds when on rough terrain. They’re the go-to pack if we ever venture out on big rides with demanding terrain. It’s no wonder you will see these being used at EWS races.

Attaching the Shred is a pleasurable experience. We love the way the straps are interconnected. When you pull down on them, you can feel everything cinch down securely across the chest and shoulders, all pulling together to provide a very secure feeling.

The design thinking that has gone into the strapping system is another area that impressed us. The main chest strap is elasticated which means you can have it nice and tight but it still expands as you breathe. This is super-useful if you need the pack to be cinched down tight but still be able to pull in those large gulps of air.

We used the pack at half empty and fully loaded and the feeling of security was the same. We’ve also been using the pack fully loaded with heavy camera gear for all-day photo shoots. We just can’t express how much this pack can handle a ton of gear and yet remains stable and comfortable.

The USWE Shred 16L backpack comes with super comfy shoulder straps that distribute the weight perfectly, and the back panel is adjustable, so you can customize the fit and feel like the pack was made just for you. Although a fairly large-sized pack, this actually was never an issue and it actually helped to distribute the weight more evenly which reduced fatigue and discomfort, particularly in the shoulders and lower back.

We’ve yet to experience a pack that eliminates sweaty back syndrome altogether, but the Shred does a bloody good job of reducing it. The horizontal ridges combined with the mesh material helped to keep airflow moving during our testing and the rigidity of the back panel is stiff enough to retain its form but still has plenty of padding for comfort.

The NDM + Snug-Me harness system is like strapping yourself into a fighter jet or rally car without losing any style points. This bad boy keeps the backpack locked in place, no matter how crazy your ride gets. So you can focus on shredding those trails instead of worrying about your gear.
