Sustainable mountain biking brand Norman, launches a new line of high-tech downhill shorts
Snowy Mountains born mountain bike clothing brand, Norman, has revealed its new range of versatile and sustainable biking gear: the Lightweight Downhill Series. Launching with the Downhill Series Shorts, the range provides riders with built-in protection to keep them safe on the bike and stylish anywhere.
The new range of Downhill Series Shorts has been created with inbuilt recycled neoprene padding along the outer panel. Most mountain biking shorts don’t come with built-in padding, so while crashing is never ideal, Norman’s Downhill Shorts will soak up some of the sting if you do come unstuck.
Designed using premium fabric – a polyester and elastane made using real recycled plastic bottles – the Downhill Series Shorts are designed to give riders ultimate movement and flexibility on the bike. The high-performance fabric meets the needs of mountain bikers of any ability: moisture-wicking, antibacterial, sweat–resistant, highly durable, and ultra-lightweight at 150GSM.
Pockets on the left thigh and YKK zips add to the purposeful, highly functional design – created with seamless days on the mountain in mind. With a focus on inclusivity, Norman’s apparel is available in sizes that make riders of every body shape feel confident and comfortable on the mountain.
Identifying a gap in the market for sustainable and ethically produced, stylish mountain biking clothing, Norman Co-founder Jacinta Timmins and her business partner Charlie Timmins established the brand with the express mission of creating durable clothing that helps male and female mountain bikers feel comfortable on and off the bike.
Through Norman’s high-function range, that sense of comfort comes not only from technical designs and lightweight fabrics but from refined styles and a commitment to sustainability that sees the brand plant one native Australian tree for every purchase. In an effort to promote mindful consumption and reduce industrial waste, Norman also offers repair services on all their products.
“Norman was founded on the principle that function, style, and environmental consciousness don’t have to be mutually exclusive. We wanted to bring riders the option; an opportunity to buy gear that was both technically effective and, most importantly, green,” explains Jacinta.
