TOPO Runventure 2 – Shoe Review
Cut to the Chase
The Topo Runventure 2 provides a unique, freeing experience of running that can be missed with other, more built up trail running shoes. The combination of the roomy toe box and 0mm drop puts it in a special category between the Vibram FiveFingers running shoe and a standard trail runner. A natural feeling, lightweight trail shoe with the grit and sturdiness to go the distance and the freedom to move.
Pros
Unique and spacious toe box
Super-lightweight
Highly breathable
Supportive yet supple
Gaiter loops
Zero drop
Cons
Longevity may be an issue with such lightweight materials
A little on the pricey side.

A Trail Running Shoe Made For A Natural Running Experience.

Topo running shoes were born through common sense. A simple mission to move better, naturally.

They were designed to deliver the comfort and fit that would allow the foot to move naturally, today, tomorrow and remain active for a lifetime. Made to keep your experience of running feeling innate & pure.

First Impressions

The unique shape and width of the toe box was an immediate stand out for me with the Topo Runventure 2, a definite contrast to more common, form-fitting trail running shoes. With the shoes on I could feel this difference as my toes spread out – the roomy fit was instantly comfortable.

Secondly, the 0mm drop base felt unlike any trail shoe I had worn before – I was excited and intrigued at how this very different fit would perform on the trails!

Features

The Runventure 2 is a lightweight, responsive zero drop trail runner. The high-performance rubber sole combined with a slightly thinner EVA midsole gives the Runventure its flexibility and comfort, but still offers good levels of support and cushioning with a relaxed elastane heel for a more natural feel.

For those loose and gritty trails, you can attach gaiters to the rear of the shoe with a handy gaiter attachment loop to help keep dirt and debris out of your shoe. Gaiters are optional and may be purchased separately.

But the key attraction of any Topo shoe is the toe box. This anatomically designed toe box allows you to splay your toes out, resulting in much more natural foot placement for improved foot planting plus reducing injury and soreness.

  • Roomy Toe Box
    • Anatomical toe box allows toes to spread naturally and comfortably.
  • Rock Protection Plate
    • Flexible ESS rock plate protects against stone bruising caused by sharp rocks and roots.
  • High Traction Outsole
    • Combines multidirectional traction, heel braking lugs, and mud/snow release design features.
  • Zero Drop
    • Completely neutral drop for the most natural running experience.

On The Trails

I loved the feel of the extra room in the toe box and the way my foot could spread out while running. Combined with the lightweight nature of the shoe, movement felt easy.

As we clocked up the kilometres along technical trails, the grip and fit passed the test and held up well. After the long day out, however, the rubber on the toe had begun to lift and come away from the shoe.

My feet felt unusually tired, something I believe is not uncommon in a neutral shoe as the muscles adjust to work harder. The initial pay-off for the natural running feel is well worth it though.

I am looking forward to spending more time building distance in the Topo range and seeing how my feet adjust!
